My 10 seconds of fame

I just want to share my 10 seconds of fame.   While it's not quite the Andy Warhol's "15 minutes of fame", it's still pretty exciting!  During the noon newscast on Feb 9th, 2018 on CBS, between 100 and 150 million people saw a version of the following video:

Why am I on CBS?

My host agency Avoya Travel has been working with ASTA, a travel industry advocacy group to promote the profession.  ASTA worked with CBS News to produce a segment on travel agencies where they interviewed some agents that put together unique groups.  They decided to also splice together a bunch of 10 second snippets from other agencies around the country.   My video was chosen - first by Avoya, then by ASTA and then by CBS.

Why 10 seconds of fame?

It's only 10 seconds long because that's what I was allowed.  I decide to feature my beer themed river cruise groups because they are unique.  If you watch the video, you'll see me in front of the poster I used to market the very first beer themed river cruise back in March of 2015.  Here's a description of that first trip. And here's our blog post from our third beer themed trip.  We're now on our fourth Joe Sixpack themed trip - this time down the Moselle River in Germany.  This post describes it.  So I thought it would be a fun thing to promote - even if only for 10 seconds of fame.

The beer lasted longer than my 10 seconds of fame Belgium Beer from Tulips and Beer River cruise

Some fun, some hard work and some beer

I have to admit it was fun putting this together.  But it's hard work!  I can't tell you how many takes it took to get it just right.  Between getting the words and intonations, the lighting and the timing right, Dave and I kept trying over and over again.  Luckily we finally got a few good examples.  And we did go through a few different beers along the way too.  Ask me  which was my favorite that day (hint: it was made locally by Weyerbacher Brewery in Easton PA and it has some connection to the Super Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles).

Cheers!

While I'm honored to have been chosen, it's incredibly embarrassing seeing myself on video and knowing so many of you will see it too.  I'm no rock star to be sure.  But I do know my river cruises. And I do know what guests want.  Our Joe Sixpack trips have been very successful and I'm quite proud to have put them together.  Here's to seeing you on an upcoming beer themed river cruise - Cheers!
